Trilogy race information
TRILOGY PART 1: GLENARM TO CARRICKFERGUS (Start time at Glenarm will be 8.00am)
Full event description:
Participants will be bused from the finish area (Carrickfergus) to the start area (Glenarm). Public toilets are available at the start area.
Set in the quaint coastal village of Glenarm, runners will start at Glenarm Castle, one of Northern Irelands oldest estates, built in 1636. From there they will run over the open terrain of the Antrim Hills Way, taking in views that encompass much of Northern Ireland and extending as far as Scotland. The route also takes in forest paths, trails, lanes and rural roads. We estimate the course to be approximately 60% off road. This is a challenging 50k given the open terrain (the Antrim Hills are typically wet underfoot) and climbs, including Shane’s Hill (1025ft) and over Carninard in Ballyboley forest (366 metres).
The finish is at the majestic Carrickfergus Castle, one of the best preserved medieval structures in Northern Ireland and of significant historical importance.
The concept behind ‘We Run Wild Ni’ is taking running back to nature, running for enjoyment and taking in scenery that is often missed when running, blindly looking for the next race sign or mile marker. To that end, there are no marshals on the course (with the exception of the half-way point) and the environment is not tainted with event signage. Rather, runners followed a detailed road book and return to self-sufficient running, carrying their own supplies. We will ensure runners safety with trackers and a manned aid station at half-way, allowing participants to focus the beauty around them. No additional navigational skills are required; the road book is sufficient, as runners of our previous events will testify.
This run celebrates some of the most beautiful landscape of Northern Ireland and with a start and finish point of two of the most beautiful castles in the locality it is a celebration of Northern Irelands historic value and beauty.
This is the first part of the Castle Trilogy. Each event has a bespoke medal and those who run all three events will receive a beautiful fourth medal which interlocks all the medals together. This fourth medal is provided only for those who complete the three trilogy events.
Bus leaves Carrickfergus at 7:00 SHARP and travels to start area (Glenarm). Should you wish to make your own way to Glenarm you can do so, however no transport will be provided by race organisers back to Glenarm.
