Full event description:
Starting and finishing at Carrickfergus Castle, Co Antrim, the event includes Half and Full Marathon distance. Both courses are predominantly run on trails, lanes, forest paths and rural roads and will give runners spectacular views of Belfast Lough.
Our ethos is to take runners back to nature, to ‘Run Wild, Run Free’ and as such both events are self-sufficient, and runners will be provided with a detailed roadbook to self-navigate the course, providing a unique opportunity to challenge yourself in a new way. There will be no signage or marshals on the course, so you need to follow the roadbook (no compass or additional map required).
As there is no access to naturally occurring water on the course and as this is a self-sufficient event runners must carry their own food and water. This is a challenging course so runners should exercise their own common sense and carry adequate water and food supplies for the distance. These must be shown at registration.
Time limits of 4 hours for the Half Marathon Run, 6 hours for the Half Marathon Walk and 8 hours for the Full Marathon will be imposed.
All runners will receive a road book (printed on waterproof paper) and a bespoke event specific Medal and post-race refreshments. Medical cover provided by Ambutran medical services
The event is an official MCUK and MCI Marathon and has an Athletics NI race permit.

RACE REVIEWS - MAY 2019
“We run Wild Ni inaugural Half/Marathon was a unique and very different experience for those of us used to standard road races. Road books were provided and were clear and easy to follow and I got lost in the peace and quiet of the hidden scenic trails and working your way along the course with both Gillian and Gary providing help if needed. A truly unmissable event” Eileen Stewart
“The Carrickfergus Trail Marathon by We Run Wild Ni is a unique event. It is challenging without being technically difficult, which means runners with a wide range of abilities and experience can enjoy it. I’ve lived in Carrickfergus for nearly 30 years and I love running the trails and forest paths near the town, but there were still some lanes and paths in this race that I had never been on before. I loved it and I’m looking forward to the next time” Bobbie Irvine
“This was a great event from start to finish and I would advise anyone to enter. It is something different and very rewarding with a great finish” Eugene Winters
“This was my 43rd and most memorable Marathon. To sum it up it was beautifully challenging. Can’t wait for the next one” Adrian Moat
“Run Wild was advertised as a Marathon but it was so much more. It didn’t have road markers or signs but the road book proved easy once you trusted your own skills. I would recommend doing a Marathon of this type, staged by an experienced Marathon team. I will definitely be doing the next one” Gordon Glenn
