Join us on this epic journey as we follow in the footsteps of the Strokestown tenants, men, women and children who were marched from Roscommon to Dublin in 1847 after they failed to pay their rent. In Dublin, they boarded a ship to Liverpool before journeying to North America on board some of the worst coffin ships of the time.
Not all of them made it alive, they became known as the:
                                                'Missing 1490'
The 2026 edition will run in reverse Starting in Dublin and Finishing in Strokestown.
So our 105mile journey in 2026 will start from the Famine Statues in Dublin and will finish in Strokestown Park Estate, Co Roscommon, we will follow the route the tenants took only this year we will travel in reverse we leave Dublin at the point close to where they boarded the boarded boats leaving Ireland on their journey to Liverpool and then on to North America.
Full details about this can be found by tying into Google: The National Famine way.
Our Ultra journey is around 105 miles which is slightly longer than the stated 165km on the Famine website this is due to some alternate sections.

For 2026 We intend to have a 50mile option, the 50mile will start close to Mullingar and will follow the exact same route to finish at Strokestown Park House. details around the 50 are still being confirmed.
Your journey will be relatively traffic free due to the route being beside the Royal Canal and will also be relatively flat.
  • Your Ultra 105mile journey will start on the morning of the 1st August 2026                 (Saturday at 9am ) and you will have a total time of 30hours in which to complete the run, this is a very generous time given the route, you must be finished by 3pm on Sunday 2nd.
  • There will be a strict cutoff in place at the 50mile mark, (you will have 14hours)
  • There will be fixed aid stations on route a minimum of 2 where you will be have the facility to access a drop bag. These locations will be outside locations and will be confirmed closer to the event.
  • There will also be mobile aid stations along the route. Locations will be confirmed closer to the event.
  • You may have your own crew follow you.
